One of the most influential Danish architects of the 20th century, Jørn Utzon is best-known for designing the Sydney Opera House in the 1950s, an impressive building where the façade appears different from any given angle and 60-metre-high semi-curves open out towards the harbour, exemplifies his organic concept of architecture and expressive sculptural style.
Jørn Utzon’s fascination with architectural legends from the Mayan, Moroccan and Asian cultures led to what he termed “Additive Architecture”.
The Utzon lamp JU1 was designed over a decade before Utzon worked on the Opera House and was inspired by his father’s naval engineering drawings of ships.
The JU1 Utzon pendant light range was designed by Jørn Utzon in the 1940's ten years before creating the Sydney Opera House. This light, as with many of his designs, are inspired by use of light and the sea. This Utzon lamp also draws inspiration from ship design taken partly from his fathers naval drawings. This beautiful light still holds it own in modern design to this day.
