Louis Poulsen PH Septima Pendant Light.
Louis Poulsen PH Septima Pendant, originally designed by Poul Henningsen in 1928, is regarded as one of his most refined designs. Originally the shade hung in the Danish Museum of Decorative Art (now Designmuseum Danmark) and was publicly applauded. The PH Septima's 7 shades are made from Italian borosilicate glass and parts of each shade are sandblasted to soften the light emitted. These sections alternate per shade which further diffuses the light. The design has been altered over the years and is the basis for the PH Artichoke which followed 30 years later. This model was bought back in 2020 and is based on the Septima 5 but features higher quality glass and hangers.
The PH series of lamps consists of 30 lamps, including pendants, floor and table lamps. The original lamp shades were made of metal and painted underside in different colours to produce either diffused warm or cold light, with the glass variants appearing later on which provide an all round light. Poul Henningsen was the first designer to use a scientific approach to his lighting designs and produced some of the most iconic and world renowned designs to the market, most of which are still available today. A true master of Danish lamps and lighting.
