Louis Poulsen PH 5 Mini Pendant is part of the iconic three-shade system originally designed by Poul Henningsen in 1925/26, which by design directs most of the light downwards and is 100% glare free. This design allows lateral light which illuminates the fixture as well. PH 5 came in to being in 1958 when Henningsen found that new bulb designs shape and size were causing issues with existing lamp designs. He wrote “I have accepted fate, and with Louis Poulsen´s permission I have designed a PH fixture, which can be used with any kind of light source, Christmas lights and 100 W metal filament bulbs. Although a fluorescent tube would be too much to ask in the existing form!” PH 5 continues to elevate even the most modern interiors, as does the PH 5 Mini with a top shade diameter of 30 centimetres, introduced in the spirit of Poul Henningsen in 2017. Louis Poulsen wishes to cater to contemporary and creative living, and therefore resized the famous pendant for the first time.

The PH series of lamps consists of 30 lamps, including pendants, floor and table lamps. The original lamp shades were made of metal and painted underside in different colours to produce either diffused warm or cold light, with the glass variants appearing later on which provide an all round light. Poul Henningsen was the first designer to use a scientific approach to his lighting designs and produced some of the most iconic and world renowned designs to the market, most of which are still available today. A true master of Danish lamps and lighting.

The fixture provides 100% glare-free light. Its design is based on the principle of a reflective three-shade system, which directs majority of the light downwards. The fixture emits both downward and lateral light, thus illuminating itself.
